Surfnet to Implement $6.2 Million in State Grant Funding to Build Fiber Services in Rural San Luis Obispo County

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA — Surfnet Communications, Inc. (Surfnet) today announced it will implement five state funding grants that total $6.2 million in partnership with the nonprofit California Broadband Alliance (CBA) to extend fiber broadband to rural communities in San Luis Obispo County.

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) awarded the grants to the CBA, which selected Surfnet as its partner to build the infrastructure.

“All Californians should have access to fast, reliable broadband service,” said Ken Nye, Surfnet’s Chief Operating Officer. “Thanks to the CPUC’s action today and our partnership with the California Broadband Alliance, we will be able to make a real difference for rural communities in San Luis Obispo County.”

The areas that will receive new fiber infrastructure funded by the CPUC grants include Shandon, Branch, Corbett Canyon, Whitley Gardens and Old Oak Park, all of which are considered challenging areas in which to build because of the remote locations and terrain. Surfnet has deep experience in building fiber infrastructure and delivering internet service to rural communities. For more information, visit www.surfnetc.com.
