Frequently Asked Questions

Surfnet is thrilled to announce the launch of high-speed fiber internet service in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, and San Luis Obispo counties. Thanks, in part to a recently awarded $10.1 million grant from the California Public Utilities Commision, we're expanding Surfnet Fiber to communities that need it most. We've received numerous questions from our current and future customers about this service, and we're eager to provide answers.

Surfnet, headquartered in Santa Cruz County, is a locally-owned company committed to improving internet access and fostering digital inclusion throughout Central California’s coastal regions. Our mission centers on building sustainable and resilient infrastructure to bolster connectivity for everyone. By providing reliable, high-speed internet services, we aim to support economic growth and enhance social well-being across our communities.

The first round of this ongoing project is projected to be completed in five phases between January and December 2025.  These five phases include the following locations:

Santa Cruz County areas include portions of Holy City, Hutchinson, Mount Bache, Loma Chiquita, Radonich, Redwood Lodge, Riva Ridge, Skyland, Soda Springs, Summit area and Zayante

San Luis Obispo County areas include portions of Paso Robles, Whitley Gardens and Shandon

We are actively completing the engineering portion but feel confident with the following:

Phase 1: November 2024 -January 2025

Phase 2: February 2025 – March-2025

Phase 3: April 2025 June – 2025

Phase 4: July 2025 – September 2025

Phase 5: November 2025 – December 2025

Surfnet’s Fiber internet will reach up to 1 gigabit upload and download speeds.

Surfnet will match or beat the prices of our competitors for Fiber internet connections. For specific pricing details, please email us at andrea@surfnetc.com or calling 831-439-7873  ext. 77. Or 805-461-4050 ext. 77.

There’s no upfront installation cost for Surfnet to connect your home to Fiber at the street. While most homes will be easily connected, some more challenging cases may require third-party involvement. Every road, driveway, and home is unique, which is why we’ll offer a complimentary site visit once deployment is scheduled for your road.

The typical Fiber installation consists of running a Fiber cable from the pole to the home.

We’d mount a box on the outside of the house, then run ethernet cable from the box to the termination point inside the house.

Yes!  Surfnet, together with the CPUC, are working together in hopes of further extending our Fiber networks that serve homes and businesses in San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties.
